14. Buy Fresh Fish at the Port
Head to the small port area on the east end of El Rodadero Beach in the morning to see fishermen unloading the daily catch. You’ll find snapper, tuna, and other local fish straight from the sea. Prices are much lower than local restaurants and the quality is hard to beat.
Some nearby eateries will cook the fish for you for a small fee. Local fisherman will clean it on the spot so you can take it back to your place to cool. It’s a simple, local experience that feels very real and this is also a great spot for birdwatching as they try to get land some free food.
Going early is key. By mid-morning most of the best fish is already gone and the heat kicks in so it’s a better time to just kick back and relax on the beach.
15. Live Music At La Escollera or the Promenade
Discoteca La Escollera in El Rodadero has to one of the best venues in all of Colombia for live concerts. It’s big enough for a great party but small enough to still feel intimate.
Set on an island in the middle of a forested lagoon surrounded by exotic birds, attending a live performance or concert here is quite the experience. Here you can grab a cold drink, slow your pace, and let the night unfold. El Rodadero does low-key nightlife very well.
You’ll also find live music and street performances along the promenade beside El Rodadero beach. Expect vallenato, acoustic guitar, small dance groups, and the occasional full band.
Most performances are free, with musicians playing for tips. You can stand, listen for a while, then move on when something else catches your ear. There’s also a number of nightclubs and live music bars scattered throughout El Rodadero.
